  • Are Netbooks Worth It?

Instead of purchasing a iPod Touch for travelling purposes, my mind wandered to the portability and convenience of a netbook. A netbook is essentially a mini-notebook with reduced processing power and specifications designed primarily for net browsing. The monitor screens come in either 8.9 or 10.2 inches and the netbooks weigh between 1 to 1.3kg. Some netbooks are powerful enough to run various applications with battery life lasting up to 6 hours, and that is the clincher.

Imagine flying long haul on an aircraft that doesn’t offer individual in-flight entertainment, a netbook will be a saviour. If WiFi is available then surfing the net would be a breeze. And transferring photos direct to the netbook for immediate processing should (hopefully) speed up posting on here.

From my research the best 10.2 inch netbook is the Samsung NC10.

And the best 8.9 inch netbook is the Acer Aspire One.

The only blip is whether I need another gadget as I have accumulated enough junk?

  • wow, you went to almost every major night market

  • JUST purchased the MSI Wind U100. It’s suh-weet! It actually has built-in overclock mode for 25% increase in performance.

  • I have a acer netbook. Pros: easy to carry around anywhere. WiFi no problem so far. Cons: speakers are as small as the netbook = bad sound quality, no cd rom, sensitive keys cuz I tend to type fast and I guess my fingers are a bit trigger happy (?), I had to transport a lot of my stuff into my external hard drive.

I gotta show the bf your blog. He’ll be so immensely jealous some of his family will be going to taiwan to grub on the food you just put up.

  • I have the acer one, it’s light and handy but the battery life isn’t super fantastic…i found with wifi on with full brightness, it lasted 2-3 hours?? So not exactly inflight entertainment, but so good in that you can upload photos, see it right away, have something to connect to free wifi at airports, hotels etc.  It’s probably same weight as my portable photo vault but with a screen :D

  • My MSI Wind lasts 2-3 hours as well with wifi on, also has bad sound quality.
I’m so jealous of your Taiwan trip and the night market food!  I want to see it for myself someday.

  • You can Never have enough gadgets in my opion. They’re awesome. Never been a big fan of samsung… go for the acer =P The cat sign’s hilarious… XD

  • Netbooks are totally worth it!!  You should get one.  They are so handy and light!

And I love your pics of Taiwan.  Can’t wait to hit all those night markets myself!

  • Wow, food entry! i so love takoyaki but seeing other pics here make me wanna get a plane ticket and check those delicacies. the ice cream pancake looks inviting.

oh, with regards to technology, get what you need.  i think the samsung rocks more coz’ of the image quality of its screens. i just don’t know of the full function though.  but if it were me, i’ll go with the ipod :)

  • I fine myself using my iPod touch more and more and my laptop less and less.  It’s so convenient.
That cat sign is EPIC…as are your pics!

  • The food all looks delicious!!! If in fact the snake is not one of the food items, LOL.

  • What are those buns called?  I’m planning on going back to Taipei this year and would love to search them out.

  • i have the acer but pink one =)
