The weekend was spent back in my hometown of Liverpool and it was good to be back in the UK! It was great to:
1) Finally shop in a supermarket with cheaper prices and and greater variety. I bought alot of groceries to take back to Amsterdam and for my friend in Japan. Unfortunately, I couldn’t fit everything in my luggage and so some had to be left behind.
2) See a film without non-English subtitles obstructing the view of the bottom screen. I watched “Lost In Translation” believing there will be English subtitles for any Japanese dialogue. In the Netherlands, there are only Dutch subtitles whereas in Thailand both Thai and English are shown. ”Lost In Translation” did not show any subtitles as some of the humour derided from non-Japanese speaking audiences being as confused as Bill Murray was. The film was excellent. Sofia Coppola will be as good as her father was in his prime.
3) Drinking a glass of beer without an inch or more of head. In the Netherlands, the Dutch believe that a large head of froth on a glass of beer enhances the taste. More like ripping off the drinker. It is akin to establishments filling a glass full of ice so only a small amount of coke or juice need be added.
4) No heavy rain or strong winds. It has been raining everyday in Amsterdam for the past three weeks. I was glad to spend an entire day without a drop falling to gloom my outlook.
I took my computer and videos of my favourite programmes that my sister had kindly recorded for me back to Amsterdam. Now I need to buy a desk, a monitor and some very long cabling.
My piece about Dubai will continue later as I also bought pictures but they cannot be uploaded until the computer is fully connected.
I spoke to my friends about their coming to visit for Queen’s Day on 30th April. Ideally, they should arrive on the 29th in time for the festivities to begin in the evening and stay until Sunday. So, Raks, I like to have Thu-Sat off please! My friends plan to catch the morning flight back to the UK on Sunday so I can return to work for the late shift if possible.

im not a beer person so i can’t really relate to it.. the weather here in Miami has been extremely nice, but i woke up today w/ all haze and fog.

Yes I have been to the UK, London last summer.
I posted my pics http://www.xanga.com/private/home.aspx?user=somedutchboy&nextdate=12%2f19%2f2003+11%3a41%3a1.550&direction=n I use the Canon Powershot A100, 1.2 megapixels. Crazy old thing but it still works.
If you think the Holland is 10 years behind of the UK you have to take a look at Belgium…
I don’t share that oppinion but I’ve only been in London for 3 days.
